City Park is blessed with many great staff members! Each month, PAWS provides the opportunity for colleagues to nominate one another for a spotlight moment! This month, Ms. Jones was nominated. We hope you enjoy getting to know a little bit more about this outstanding educator!

Beacon Testing
Our students will be taking the second round of the DRC BEACON assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Beacon is a through-year, formative interim assessment system designed to help teachers monitor progress and guide instruction throughout the school year. K–3 students will participate in DRC BEACON Early Years, which provides important information to monitor growth. Grades 4–5 students will participate in DRC BEACON, which is directly aligned to Georgia standards and helps teachers identify strengths and areas needing more support.
Testing Dates
December 2--Beacon Testing for Grades 2 and 3 (Math)
December 2 and 3--Kindergarten Beacon Testing (Math)
December 3 and 4--Beacon Testing for Grades 4 and 5 (Reading)
December 3--Beacon Testing for Grade 1 (Math)
December 5--Beacon Testing for Grades 4 and 5 (Math)
Beacon is not a high-stakes test—it is a valuable tool that helps teachers better understand student learning and provide the right support at the right time. Both assessments are flexible, can be given multiple times during the year, and adjust in difficulty to meet students where they are. Because Beacon uses the same online platform and tools as Georgia Milestones, it also helps prepare students for the end-of-year summative assessment.
To help your child do their best, please make sure they are well rested, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive on time during the testing window.

What an incredible day our fourth and fifth graders had at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta! Even on a virtual learning day, these amazing students — along with their dedicated teachers and our wonderful bus driver — showed up ready for a PAWSibilities adventure!
Students created their very own Rudolph shadow puppets, enjoyed a live performance of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and explored the museum’s incredible exhibits. A highlight of the day was visiting the Jim Henson exhibit. Students also learned how the classic Rudolph puppet show was brought to life. 🦌✨
A huge thank you to Mr. D and all the behind-the-scenes helpers who made this unforgettable experience possible! Our students came home inspired, creative, and full of holiday spirit. ❤️🎄

Friday, Nov. 21 is a Virtual Learning Day, followed by Thanksgiving Holiday from Nov. 24-28. We'll welcome all students back in-person on Monday, Dec. 1 🦃🍁

Mrs. Brock’s class had a blast making real life animals out of base ten models. They counted how many it took to make their animal and then wrote that number in expanded form to show each place value.

Here are more photos from kindergarten's downtown Dalton field trip!

As a class, Ms. Gomez's class sorted crayons to reach their goal of counting 1,000 crayons. First, they made groups of ten. Then, they took ten groups of ten to make 100. Finally, they counted by hundreds until we reached 1,000!

Kindergarten students enjoyed a walking field trip to downtown Dalton! Many thanks to Buckin' Burrito for hosting them!
