Dalton Public Schools administers the FITGeorgia fitness assessment in compliance with Georgia State Board Rule 160-4-2-.12, which requires all school districts to implement a fitness assessment approved by the Georgia Department of Education. City Park's fourth and fifth grade students will take the assessment on October 14 and 15.
FITGeorgia is a state-developed fitness assessment designed to evaluate multiple components of student health and physical fitness. The program replaces the former FITNESSGRAM platform and aligns with Georgia’s health and physical education standards.
FITGeorgia assesses the following areas: • Healthy Body Range • Aerobic Capacity • Flexibility • Muscular Strength • Muscular Endurance
These components provide a comprehensive snapshot of a student’s physical well-being and serve as a foundation for promoting lifelong health and fitness habits.
Who Participates and What Is Assessed
Grades 4–12: Students are required to complete and report on all five components of the FIT Georgia assessment. The data collected through FITGeorgia serves a variety of educational and public health purposes:
• Students & Families: Can monitor individual health trends and make informed decisions to support wellness and academic success.
• Teachers & Schools: Use results to inform physical education instruction, evaluate program effectiveness, and guide curriculum planning.
• District Administrators: May use data for accountability reporting and to support funding and grant applications.
• Policy Makers & Partners: Public and private organizations, including the Georgia Health Policy Center, may use the data to shape programs, influence policy, and provide resources to improve child wellness statewide.

We want to give a huge thank you to our incredible cafeteria staff for all they do every single day! 💚
From preparing delicious, healthy meals to greeting our students with warm smiles, they help keep our Panthers fueled and ready to learn.
We appreciate your hard work, dedication, and the love you pour into every lunch tray. You make City Park a brighter (and tastier!) place to be! 💫

💚 On October 7th, we invite all students and staff to wear green.
Green is the official color of cerebral palsy awareness, and by wearing it, we show our care, respect, and solidarity with the millions of people who live with CP.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about kindness, inclusion, and celebrating differences. Thank you for helping us create a school culture that values and supports everyone.
We can’t wait to see our school shine bright in green!💚

City Park is blessed with many great staff members! Each month, PAWS provides the opportunity for colleagues to nominate one another for a spotlight moment! This month, Mrs. Asbell was nominated. We hope you enjoy getting to know a little bit more about this outstanding educator!

Our coaches work side by side with teachers—sharing strategies, offering support, and helping create the very best learning opportunities for our students. Their expertise, encouragement, and commitment to excellence truly make a difference every single day.
We are so grateful for their dedication and the positive impact they have on both teaching and learning.
Please join us in saying a HUGE thank you to our instructional academic coaches, Kristen Asbell and Stacey Haynes, today!

On World Cerebral Palsy Day, we come together to show support and raise awareness for individuals living with cerebral palsy around the world. This year, we would love for our school community to join in!

Friday and Monday, October 10 and 13 are student holidays.
Classes will resume as normal on Tuesday, October 14.

Our custodians work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our school clean, safe, and welcoming every single day. From early mornings to late evenings, they take care of so many details that make a big difference for our students, staff, and families.
We are so grateful for their dedication and hard work — City Park Elementary wouldn’t shine without them!
If you see our custodians today, be sure to give them a big “thank you!”

On Friday, October 31, students will hit the CATwalk during Specials for our Fall Fashion Show! 🎉
Students are welcome to wear costumes, fun outfits, hats, or accessories as they strut across the stage for a round of APPAWSE. (Please remember: no weapons, no masks, no frightening/scary costumes, and face paint must allow students to be identifiable.)
We’ll also celebrate our October PAWSitive Panthers 🎖—parents of honorees will receive a special invitation!
Plus, don’t miss our PAWtumn Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser! 🎃
Book-character pumpkins decorated by 4th & 5th grade art classes will be on display. Students can “vote” for their favorite with coins or cash. The pumpkin with the most votes will be declared the winner, along with a special Principal’s Pick of the Patch!
It’s going to be a day full of fashion, fun, and PAWtumn spirit! 🐾✨

Each October, schools across the country celebrate National Principals Month to honor the hard work and dedication of principals. Principals guide our schools, support teachers and staff, and most importantly, help students grow and succeed.
At City Park Elementary, we are so thankful for our principal, Ms. Rhyne! Her leadership, encouragement, and care for our students and families make City Park a wonderful place to learn. This month, we celebrate and thank Ms. Rhyne for everything she does for our school community.
