Learning math is hands-on and so much fun! Today, students in Mrs. Maulding's class used colorful counting blocks to construct their very own "neighborhoods." Each building was designed to represent numbers in different, creative ways while practicing foundational math concepts.

Learning Volume Through Play!

Mathematicians in Mr. Allre'ds class put their math skills—and their creativity—to work by creating their own games about volume! Then came the best part: getting to play the games their classmates designed!

Students practiced important volume concepts while problem-solving, collaborating, and learning from one another. When students become the game designers AND the players, learning takes on a whole new dimension!

We are excited to offer our students opportunities to sing, lead, and show their school spirit! Check out these ways your child can get involved at City Park:

🎶 GLEE CLUB | Grades 4 & 5
Does your student love to sing and perform? Glee Club gives 4th and 5th graders the opportunity to make music, build friendships, perform at school and community events, participate in school-wide sing-alongs, and more! The first rehearsal is August 27!🎤🎵

⭐ STUDENT COUNCIL | Grades 4 & 5
Student Council applications are available now! Applications can be picked up in Ms. Jones’ office or from the 3rd-floor workroom.

📌 Applications are due August 26 and must be completed in full, including a parent signature. Students may return applications to Ms. Jones’ office or their homeroom teacher. Campaigning information will be given to students on August 28.

📣 CHEER CLUB | Grades 1–5
Cheer Club Tryout Letters of Interest were sent home with students this week! Tryouts will be held Friday, August 21 AND Friday, August 28. Space is limited to 5 students per grade level.

Parents/guardians should review the letter and tryout rubric, sign the Letter of Interest, and return it if their child would like to try out.

There’s something pretty special about watching a City Park student walk up to our book vending machine, use their token, choose a brand-new book, and proudly take it home to KEEP. ❤️

Our book vending machine is part of the Dalton Reads initiative across Dalton Public Schools, helping us put books directly into the hands of students and build a community of lifelong readers.

At City Park, students can earn a token for the vending machine when they are recognized as a PAWSitive Panther! 🐾

Being a PAWSitive Panther means showing the character, choices, and behaviors that make City Park such a special place to learn and grow. And what better way to celebrate our Panthers than with a new book of their very own? 📖✨

Egg-cellent teamwork in action! What better way to kick off the school year than with a little creativity, collaboration, and an egg drop challenge? Students in Mrs. Menons class jumped right into hands-on learning as they worked together during their first-day egg drop experiment. This fun challenge encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence—all while making some great first-day memories! We love seeing our students start the year learning, laughing, and working together!

Mirette on the Highwire: Taking on Challenges!

After Ms. Moore read Mirette on the Highwire, students talked about what it means to face challenges, overcome obstacles, and keep trying when something seems impossible.

Then it was time for a challenge of their own:

Can you put your head through a notecard?

At first, it sounded impossible—but our students put their problem-solving skills, creativity, and perseverance to work! Some created an opening large enough for their entire body, and one group even managed to fit THREE people through their notecard!

What a fun way to connect literature with critical thinking and remind ourselves that sometimes a challenge just requires us to look at the problem in a different way!

Students in Mrs. Chlebisch's ELA classes kicked off the school year with a memorable lesson using toothpaste! Working together, they squeezed as much toothpaste as they could from the tube and then faced the challenge of trying to put it all back in. This hands-on activity led to a meaningful discussion about the power of our words and actions. Just like the toothpaste, once words are spoken or actions are taken, they can't be taken back. It was a wonderful reminder to choose kindness, think before we speak, and make thoughtful decisions every day.

We're off to a fantastic start! During our first two days of school, learners jumped right into Unit 1 in Mr. Allred's math class. These scholars explored the volume of rectangular prisms, and used hands-on models to build a deeper understanding of this important math concept. We can't wait to see all the learning and growth this year has in store!

PAWS is so excited that our regular specials schedule has begun! If your child has PE or Tumbling, please remember to have them wear tennis shoes on their PE day.

To help everyone participate safely in Tumbling, please make sure your child wears closed-toe shoes, ideally tennis shoes. Shoes with heels are not allowed, as they can damage our equipment. We also encourage athletic or comfortable play clothes—leggings, shorts, or t-shirts work great!

While no child will ever be left out because of their clothing, proper attire helps students move more freely and comfortably during these classes. Thank you for helping us keep these specials classes safe and enjoyable for all!
