Melissa Voiles

Dalton Public Schools proudly announces Melissa Voiles as Brookwood School’s 2024 Classified Staff Member of the Year. A dedicated paraprofessional, Voiles has been recognized for her commitment to student success and her contributions to the school community.

This is not the first time her efforts have been celebrated—Voiles was also named Brookwood’s Classified Staff Member of the Year in 2017-2018.

Voiles credits her dedication to building positive relationships, collaborating with colleagues, and showing compassion as the cornerstones of her approach. “Positive relationships with my students are very important to me,” Voiles shared. “I also feel it’s important to have a great relationship with the families of my students and my colleagues. At the end of the day, we are a team, focused and motivated for our students. When we support each other, the outcome will be positive.”

Her commitment to collaboration is another hallmark of her work. “Discussing student progress, goals, and beneficial strategies with my team helps improve student outcomes,” Voiles said. “When we work together, we can create action plans to contribute to student success.”

Voiles also emphasizes the importance of compassion in her role. “Being compassionate toward my students is very important to me,” she explained. “I feel like my students thrive when I take time to understand their needs. I get more out of my students when they know I’m taking interest in their struggles, along with their success.”

For Voiles, making a difference in the lives of students is what drives her. “My one goal as an educator is to make a difference in the lives of my students. That is what is most important to me, and honestly what matters most to me,” she said.

Voiles expressed gratitude for being part of a district filled with staff who go above and beyond to support students. “I agree that our district is filled with incredible staff that does amazing and meaningful work,” she said.

The Dalton Public Schools community celebrates Melissa Voiles for her dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts to support student achievement and collaboration at Brookwood School.
